NT 2. Student choice. week 11.

choice 2

Paul talked about the many false prophets who were teaching contradictory things about the church. There are many false prophets today, and Paul talks about them in 2 peter 2:1-19

False teachers will
    •  use clever words and devices.
    •  will pull you down
    • Lust after uncleanness
    • Pleasure in unrighteousness
    • make false promises.
    • servants of corruption

Paul says that it is worse to lose your testimony of truth, after having a firm knowledge, than to never know of the truth.

NT 2. Student Choice. week 10.

Choice 4.

Trials test our faith, and through them we are able to show the Lord how much we love him.  When we humble ourselves, The Lord will help us.  Our faith grows when we rely on him.
When unrighteous people make fun of us, we have to remember why we follow the commandments.  We receive blessings for following the commandments, and we know that He will bless us even though others don't understand.

NT 2. Student choice. week 9.

choice 3.

1.  We need to treat strangers like the Lord treated them.  And treat them how we would want to be treated.
2. Marriage is in all ways good.  We need to treat and respect our marriage in the most respectful way.
3. We need to be grateful for what we have and be AWARE of what God has given us.
4. Jesus Christ
5. Through Christ and Atonement.
6. We are supposed to obey our rulers because they know better than us.
7. Essentially, Paul asked the people to pray for everyone.

NT 2. student choice. week 8.

choice 2.

1.  Paul and Mormon prayed for their loved ones, and gave them counsel.  Paul mentioned Timothy's grandmother because she was a great example of faith, and she had taught him well.  Timothy can look up to her and try to be like her.  When we have faith in Christ, we have NO NEED to fear.  With Christ, I can do all things.  He is all powerful, creator, redeemer, and savior.  He loves me and doesn't want me to fear, he is there for me and will help me through anything.

2. Paul blessed the house of Onesiphorus because of the kindness they showed toward him.  When Paul was in need, Onesiphorus sought him out and helped him.  When I serve others, it's the same as if I was serving God Himself.  If I come to Christ with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, he will make my burden easy, and he will help me along the way.

NT 2. Student Choice. week 7.

Choice 1.

1. Philippians 2: 1-8 states that we should avoid causing contention among others.  It says that we should be of one heart, and one mind, and love others.
2. Philippians 2:12-15 says that we must have our own testimony so we can work out our salvation with God.
3. Philippians 3:7-16 says If we have a knowledge of Christ, we should follow him and we will be blessed.  We have a testimony that it is right, and we shouldn't worry about what other people think.
4. 2 Nephi 32:3 corresponds to this because it says "Angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost, wherefore the words of Christ will tell ye all things what ye should do."  The council given was through the Holy Ghost, and they should follow it because it is the same as if Christ was speaking to them.

NT 2. Student Choice. week 6.

Choice 1.

1. Salvation is nearer than we think.  In order to work out our salvation, we must continue being righteous. We must keep the commandments, and live a righteous, clean life.

2. Leads to Salvation:
Service
Sacrifice
Knowing, and doing the will of God
Stay away from that which is evil
Be kind, and hospitable
Humility, do not put yourself above others
Do good
Follow leaders
Love one another
Obey the commandments

3. Paul taught that we should strive to please others, not ourselves.
He says that a man who regards the day, regards it unto God, and a man who does not regard the day, does not regard it unto God.  Whether or not two people believe the same thing, have the same opinion, have the same point of view it doesn't matter as long as they are believing unto God.
God does not view one person, or one group of people above the others.  To Him, we are the same.  We are ALL his children.  He loves us the same.

4. He calls the members of the church Saints.

NT 2. Student Choice. week 5.

Choice 3.

1. the "body of sin must be destroyed" before baptism.
2. Christ's death and resurrection.  Christ died, laid down his life- like when we lay down in the font when we are baptized. and He rose again, like when we come up out of the font.
3. Someone cannot be baptized by sprinkling because it does not "cover" your entire being.
4. Newness of life is walking with God.  Once we are baptized, we are cleansed and are close to God.
5. The natural man.

Christ atoned for our sins so that we could become the servants of righteousness.  Not the servants of sin.  When we were servants of sin, we were free from righteousness.  But now being made free from sin, we become servants of God.  The true source of freedom is Jesus Christ, our Lord.

NT 2. Student Choice. week 4.

Choice 2.

1.  They were commanded to be forgiving.
2.  If we forgive others, Christ will forgive us.
3. We will be held accountable for the things we have done and for the fact that we didn't forgive others.

NT 2. Student Choice. week 3.

Choice 5.  How Christ helps us overcome sin.

Christ is our "rock."  Rock can mean foundation.  He is the foundation and cornerstone of our religion.  When we rely on Christ, as our rock, we can overcome any temptation, and he can help us through our trials and tribulations.
Verse 13 is reassuring because I know that any temptation I am faced with, there will be a way for me to escape the temptation.
The verses in Alma are comforting because I know that no matter what I go through, Christ knows how I feel, and he will help me along the way.

NT 2. Student Choice. week 2.

Choice 3.

Paul counseled members to:

Live the law of Chastity

Consecrate their bodies to Christ
Be honest with each other
Study and learn the gospel
Be an example and carry the word of God
Teach and help one another
Be charitable
Give thanks
Pray always
Be thankful
Have faith
Be righteous in all you do
Acknowledge Gods hand in all things.

1. Pray always.  When I'm not on my knees saying a personal prayer, I can strive to always have a prayer in my heart.
2.  Give thanks.  I need to work on being more grateful for the people in my life and the things they do for me.  And I also need to be more thankful to God for giving me all of the good people in things that I enjoy.
3.  Have faith.  I need to have faith that everything happens for a reason. I need to remember that no matter what, God is watching out for me, and he knows what he is doing, even if I am lost.

NT 2. Student Choice. week 1

Choice 1.

1. Paul was led by the Spirit to Macedonia.  He was blessed to have courage.
2. I could share the gospel more with more of the people in my life.
3. Paul always strived to teach.  I can try to be more obedient and be more humble.   True conversion means your heart has changed.  We need to be willing to apply the Gospel into our lives.

Lesson 10. Student Choice.

Choice 4.

The world’s definition of leadership is someone who is good at bossing others around, and delegating tasks.  But Christ was the perfect example of a leader, and he certainly did not do these things.  He washed his apostles’ feet.  He served those around him, even the people he was leading.
Christ said “The servant is not greater than is lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.”  And “Whosoever of you will be chiefest, shall be servant of all.”  One of the responsibilities of being in a leadership position, is to serve those you lead.
I remember for mutual one week, we went to a ward members house and helped clean it up.  It was extremely broken down, needed new paint, new siding, things like that.  I don’t really remember much about the activity except that Bishop probably worked the hardest out of everyone who showed up.  He also knew that he wasn’t in charge of the activity (it was a combined youth activity, young men in charge.)  He did whatever he was told to do and helped where he could, even though he was Bishop.  It was such a great example to me of service.

Lesson 9. Student Choice

Option 2.

The 3 things the believers could watch for are:  people trying to deceive them, look for natural disasters, people that will try to hurt you because of your beliefs.

More truths:
1. Stand in holy places.
2. Declare the gospel.
3. Be wise, and humble.
4. Evil will fail, Righteousness will survive.
5. People who know the gospel, know that Christ WILL COME.
6. Be prepared for Christ for when He comes again.

Lesson 8. Student Choice

When the widow gave her 2 mites, she gave all that she had, and she gave it willingly.  She knew that even though she was giving everything she had, the Lord would bless her.

It doesn't really matter how much we give, but with what heart and attitude we give.  When we are in the right Spirit, the Lord will accept our offering.

We can offer our hearts to the Lord.  When our hearts are in the right place, it is the best thing we can give.

Lesson 7. Student Choice.

Option 1.

The young man came to Christ with the intent to argue, and try to prove Christ wrong.  He didn't come to find out the truth, or to be taught.  Yes, he was following the commandments, but his heart wasn't in the right place.  When it came down to it, he couldn't give up everything to know Christ.  He promised that we would become judges on high, and that we would inherit everlasting life.
I know that God will not ask me to do anything that I am NOT able to do.  He won't allow me to be tempted with something that I cannot withstand.  Even though it might be hard, if I put Him first in my life, I will be blessed beyond anything I can imagine.

It doesn't matter how long we have been members of the church, we all have a chance to receive Eternal Life.  We can always repent.  We all have pasts, but with Christ's atonement we are all able to have the same reward!

Lesson 6. Student Choice

Choice 2.

1. Christ tells them to bless every house they enter.  He instructs them to let people feed them and to heal those they come in contact with.
He also makes the point that all who deny his disciples, are also denying him.

2.  We believe in setting up our church the way Christ would want it.  We sent out missionaries, as they did in Christ's time.  Members also feed the missionaries.  (I didn't know that was actually in the scriptures. hehehe)

3.  The Seventy has been in place since Christ's time.  Christ appointed the 70 to make sure that the gospel was taught the same way all over the world.

Lesson 5. Student Choice.

Choice 2.

1. Faith, fasting and prayer
2. We have to ask in faith in His name.
3. We have to be pure, which means repenting.
4. Faith in Jesus Christ.

Lesson 4. Student Choice.

Choice 3.

1. They were afraid because they were afraid he was a ghost.
2. I think that Peter’s response showed that he trusted the Lord. He wanted to be with Christ, no matter what. If only we ALL had that kind of desire to be with Christ.
3. Peter began to sink because he lost track of his goal. He stopped focusing on the Lord and got distracted by things going on around him, and so he began to sink.
4. He began to be afraid, and he called upon the Lord to help him. “Immediately.” Christ responded immediately, but I think it is important to keep in mind that although Christ did respond DIRECTLY to Peter’s request, he had to wait until Peter realized he needed help. He had to wait for Peter to ask. Only then could he offer assistance. I think this shows that we need to be humble.
5. Our eyes need to be single to the glory of God. When we center our lives around the Savior, we can feel his spirit and be filled with his light. Peter was able to walk on the water by himself when he focused on the Savior, but when he lost sight of the Savior, he began to sink. We are able to get through the storms of life when we allow the Savior to help us, but when we lose track of him, we start to drown in these storms.

Lesson 3. Student Choice.

1.  "Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?"
2. The disciples should tell John that Christ healed the sick, made the blind see, and the deaf, hear.
3.  John sent his disciples to see Christ so that they would be able to gain their own testimony of His power.  They needed to understand that Christ was the literal Son of God, while he, John, himself, was only a prophet.
John the Baptist is considered one of the greatest prophets because
1. he prepared the way for Christ,
2. his mission was to baptize the Son of Man
3. he held the keys of power.
John realized that he would not have as many followers as Christ.  John was not jealous in any way, nor did he have an hard feelings towards Christ.  We can lead other's to Christ, and not expect any reward or anything for it.

Student Choice Week 2

choice 1.

1. Blessedness is an inward fountain of joy in the soul itself, which no outward circumstances can seriously affect.
2.  A. Blessed are the peacemakers-  I am three years younger than my older brother and three years older than my younger sister.  The three of us aren't too too far apart in age, but we aren't terribly close either.  There have been times growing up where my siblings and I would find something to argue about, and when I was younger I fully participated in these bickerings.  But as I grew older I started dropping arguments because I didn't like fighting.  Now that my brother and I are in college, the main problem is between my sister and my mom.  I hate it when my sister and mom argue, so I am usually the one telling both of them to calm down and wait until they are both under control before they try to talk something out.
     B.  Blessed are the meek-  This is one that I could personally work on.  I have a hot temper.  Very hot.  To be short, I am probably easily provoked.  I need to work on being calm and being less irritated.
     C.  Blessed are they which are persecuted-  High school was not fun for me, at all.  It was hard, and because of my religion I didn't have many friends outside of church.  Let me take that back, it wasn't because of my religion.  It was because I chose to not compromise those standards which my church teaches.  I remember specifically one friend who during my sophomore year, was a very good friend of mine.  She wasn't a member but we had a lot of similar standards.  Junior year came along and during that year she started hanging out with this other group of people that I didn't really get a long with.  I thought it was maybe because I didn't shop at American Eagle, or Aeropostale, or stores like that.  I wasn't concerned with wearing name brand things.  I realized during my senior year that the reason why Laura and I gradually stopped being friends, and talking was because she started doing things that I would not do.  I would not change my standards, and because of that I didn't fit in.  Oh well.  I am a happier person because of my choice.

Student Choice Intro Week

Choice #2

The birth of John the Baptist was a miracle.  Elizabeth, his mother, was "barren and stricken with years."  She gave up any hope of having children long before an angel came to her and told her she would bare a son.  Elizabeth and Mary, Christ's mortal mother, were cousins.  John the Baptist and Christ were born around the same time, and they were very close friends because of their mothers' relationship.  Zacharias was struck dumb by an angel because he didn't believe that God could make his wife able to bare children. Zacharias rejoiced when John was born because he was able to speak.

Student Choice 1

Choice #4.

John 3.  We must be born again.

1.    -  In order to enter the Kingdom of God, we must be “born again.”  To do this, we must be baptized in the name of Christ, with the right authority, or God’s priesthood.
2.     - Christ taught Nicodemus that he must be baptized.  Born of water means to be baptized by immersion, not just by sprinkling, or any other means.
3.       -Baptism is a symbol of rebirth because you are literally spiritually reborn because as you go down and come up out of the water, you are spiritually cleansed.  You are spiritually as clean as you were the moment you were born.  Baptism is also a symbol of death because it symbolizes us going down into our grave, and being resurrected.
4.    -  The Lord compares the Spirit to dust.

God loves the whole world.  God gave his only begotten son for his children.  He allowed his son to atone for the sins of the world.  He allowed his son to suffer for the rest of his children.  Those who believe in Christ will have everlasting life.
